The film proves to be popular amongst South African audiences making over R1.39 million nation wide. With box office returns amounting to over a million, the film becomes the only title to achieve this feat in the top 5. The film was played on 89 screens locally, the same figure as last week.
The South African shot film starring Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges, The Giver also enters the chart at number 3 making over R576 thousand nation wide. The film is distributed by Ster-Kinekor and was played on 61 screens nation wide.
At number 4, the chart has another new entry with Lets Be Cops which brought in over R532 thousand locally. The comedy film is distributed Times Media Films and was screened on 31 screens in its debut weekend.
Guardians of the Galaxy rounds up the top 5 with over R494 thousand, box office returns in its 6th week on the chart. The Marvel film is distributed by Ster-Kinekor and was screened on 45 cinemas, down by 17 from last week`s 62.
For another week Times Media Films maintains a domination in the ‘top 10′ market share with 50% , Ster-Kinekor in second with 30% and United International Pictures in a tie with Black Sheep Films at third with 10% each.
