We’re going to need another Mc nickname!
Has Grey’s Anatomy found its new leading man in the wake of Patrick Dempsey‘s shocking departure last season?! It sure looks like it as E! News has confirmed that the very handsome Martin Henderson is set to join the ABC medical drama as a series regular in season 12.
While major details about Henderson’s role are being kept under wraps, we do know he’ll be playing a surgeon. We know, you are overwhelmed by all of this information.
Of course, Henderson is no stranger to Shonda Rhimes fans, as he was the star of Off the Map, her short-lived 2011 series for ABC, on which he also played a doctor. Looks like he made quite the impression!
Grey’s Anatomy had a leading man-sized hole to fill after (Mandatory spoiler warning!) the shocking death of Derek at the end of last season, which left Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), the hospital and fans devastated.
Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character—for Meredith, for me and for the fans,” Rhimes said in a statement to E! News after the shocker. “His loss will be felt by all. Now, Meredith and the entire Grey’s Anatomy family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning.”
And Pompeo took to Twitter after the death of her on-screen hubby, saying, she was “excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible.” Hm…could this new surgeon played by Henderson help her move on?
