Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and James Lassiter’s US entertainment company, Overbrook Entertainment has teamed with Legendary Television to produce a half-hour sitcom starring South African comedian, Trevor Noah.

Noah will produce the show based on his life, The Trevor Noah Project, along with executive producers Norm Aladjem, Randy Chalawsky, Overbrook’s Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett and writer Sameer Gardezi.

Noah made international news when he became the first South African stand-up comedian to appear on The Tonight Show and The Late Show. His DVDs have sold more than those of any other comedian in South Africa and he currently has a US comedy special, African American, airing on the cable network, Showtime.

Having grown up in Soweto, with a Swiss father and South African mother, his unique story has attracted a wide audience and lends itself to humorously original views on race and culture.
