Inherent Vice

Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon, this Paul Thomas Anderson-directed crime drama is set in Los Angeles in 1970, as private investigator Larry “Doc” Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) receives a visit from an ex-girlfriend who wants him to investigate the disappearance of her lover, real estate mogul Mickey Wolfmann (Eric Roberts). As the case unfolds Doc butts heads with a great many whacky L.A. characters who all seem to be somehow tied to the case. The Cinema Nouveau Short Film Project aims to provide local filmmakers a platform to showcase their work. Inherent Vice will be introduced by the short film “Birdman” directed by Robert Nicholls.
