Box Office Report: Guardians of the Galaxy returns to number 1

In a surprising turn of events, this weeks number 1 film is not unacquainted with the position, Guardians of the Galaxy returns to the top position making over R1.17 million on its third week running. The film makes an astronomical jump from last week`s number 3. The film is distributed by Ster-Kinekor and was screened on 78 theaters nationwide down by 12 screens from last week`s 90.

Sex Tape boasts the feat of being the only new release in the top 5, landing comfortably at number 2 in its debut week , making over R1.09 million. The film is distributed by Ster-Kinekor and was screened on 49 theaters nation wide.

The Expendables 3 remains consistent in the top 5, dipping one position down to number three with R.99 million nationwide. The Crystal Brook distribution was screened on 78 screens, down by 2 from last week`s 80.

Step Up: All In remains popular in the local market, the film collected R.93 in box office returns. The Times Media Films release was played on 69 cinemas, down by 10 from last week`s 79.

Last weeks number 1, dismally drops to number 5. Hercules, distributed by United International Pictures made R868 thousand in its second week on the chart.

For another week Times Media Films and Ster-Kinekor maintain a domination in the ‘top 10′ market share with 30% each ,United International Pictures  and  Crystal Brook  are in a second place tie with 20% each.
