After dominating the chart for four consecutive weeks, the Sci-Fi Action film Lucy dips 3 positions to number 4. The film however has not yet dipped under the million Rand mark, bringing in an impressive figure of over R1 million in its fifth week on circuit. The United International Pictures release was screened on 76 cinemas nation wide. That figure down by 11 from last week`s 87.

The former films successor Planes: Fire and Rescue opens up at number 1, which is not surprising considering that it is an animation that played on 103 cinemas in its first week. The film also stars South Africa`s own radio personality Darren Simpson. The Ster-Kinekor release made over R2.44 million in its debut week the only top 5 titles to gross over R2 million.

The defending position is held by The Equalizer, starring Denzel Washington, the film which had an exclusive IMAX early release opened up with over R1.95 million in debut week just a couple of thousands shy from crossing over to the R2 million mark. The Ster-Kinekor release was screened on 72 cinemas nation wide.

Looking at the the rest of the top 5, at number 3, the chart sees another new entry with The Maze Runner which opens up with over R1.68 million in its first week. The film is distributed by Times Media Films and was screened on an underwhelming 53 cinemas nation wide.

Rounding up the top 5 is another Times Media Films release, If I Stay which dips 3 positions from last week`s number 2. The film made over R387 thousand on the box office. Making it the only film in the top 5 with a figure less than a million. The dismal performance can be attributed to the fact that the film was competing against new releases and that it was on only played on 47 cinemas which was actually an improvement from last week`s 45.

For another week Times Media Films maintains a domination in the ‘top 10′ market share with 50% , Ster-Kinekor  in second with 30% and  United International Pictures  in a tie with Crystal Brook at third with 10% each.
