After the hilarious sell-out debut for “Comedy Central Presents Sex Live at the Lyric” nailed the topic of sex once and for all, comedy channel Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) has revealed more detail its race-inspired comedy sequel, “Comedy Central Presents Colourblind Live at the Lyric”.

Comedy Central Presents Colourblind Live at the Lyric” takes place at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Ormonde, Johannesburg on 20 and 21 June 2014.

Hosted by a top SA investigative journalist Debora Patta, “Comedy Central Presents Colourblind Live at the Lyric” will feature a panel of top SA stand-up comics from all colours of the racial spectrum as they unpick the Gordian knot at the nation’s core, playing the race card in ways you never thought imaginable and washing South Africa’s dirty laundry where everyone can see…

Probing the sensitive underbelly of South Africa race relations will be comedians Chris Forrest,Joey RasdienNdumiso Lindiand Tumi Morake.

Commented Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central, Africa, “Comedy has a unique ability to cut across controversial subjects such as sex and race, and offer new insights while making us laugh.  We have been delighted with the reception to our first “Sex”-themed event and look forward igniting the debate about race and colour, harnessing the power of comedy.”

Commenting on her somewhat surprising move into the comedy arena, Patta said,” Well it’s a lot cooler to hang out with smart, funny people than boring, serious journalists.  I liked the idea of providing social commentary in a satirical way and this was a great opportunity to do something different and work with seriously talented people.”

Warned comic and producer John Vlismas, “Colourblind is strictly not for the small-minded, the DA or the EFF!  With sketch, stand-up and musical comedy, ‘Colourblind’ is the skin-tone comedy show that ranges from beige to deep purple. If ‘Sex’ is anything to go by, the audience will be laughing so hard, they may have to be reclassified.”

Highlights from Comedy Central Presents Colourblind Live at the Lyric will air on Comedy Central in a televised stand-up special on Monday 4 August at 21:00 CA

I’m not sure if Deborah Pata can be funny and I don’t know about a whole show about race.
