Set in a crumbling mansion in Cumbria, a largely rural and moun-tainous region of northern England in the 19th century, young au-thor Edith Cushing falls in love with and marries a seductive stranger, Sir Thomas Sharpe. However, she soon discovers that her charming new husband and his home are not what they appear to be. His home, set atop a mountain of blood-red clay, harbours ghostly, mysterious entities, which he and his sister, Lady Lucille Sharpe, desperately and fiercely try to hide. Between desire and darkness, and mystery and madness, lies the real truth behind Crimson Peak.
