Antoine Fuqua has some choices to make as he sets out to pick his next directorial outing. The director, who is prepping the boxing drama Southpaw, has an offer from Fox to direct the Ridley Scott-produced thriller Narco Sub, an offer from MGM to direct the remake of The Magnificent Seven and an offer from Sony, which wants him to return for a second installment of The Equalizer. It’s unclear which project has pole position at this stage since the three studios all consider their respective projects to be high priority.
Sub centers on a notorious Ecuadorian drug lord who forces a disgraced American naval officer to pilot a submarine carrying a huge shipment of cocaine past the United States Coast Guard’s best defenses. Doug Liman was previously in talks to direct. Scott’s Scott Free and Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films are producing. Magnificent Seven is a remake of the Western classic about outlaws banding together to defend a town. True Detective author Nic Pizzolatto is one of the writers of the script, which at one point had Tom Cruise attached. Sources say that MGM is now eyeing Brad Pitt as a possible lead.
