Paramount removes ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4′ from release schedule

Bad news for Axel Foley fans, as Paramount has pulled Beverly Hills Cop 4 from its release schedule, with The Wrap reporting that the project has been postponed indefinitely.

The film had initially been slated to arrive in March 2016, but has now been removed from that slot with no replacement date confirmed. The studio has not revealed the reasoning behind the move, although it is thought to be script-related.

Eddie Murphy himself stressed earlier this year that the quality of the script was a dealbereaker, revealing that, “they’re still trying to get that script right. I’m not doing aBeverly Hills Cop unless they have a really incredible script. I’ve read a couple things that look like they can make some paper. But I’m not doing a shitty movie just to make some paper. The shit got to be right.”

Presumably the shit isn’t quite there yet. Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec were the last writers to turn in a draft, so whether they are called back in for rewrites or whether Paramount hires someone entirely new remains to be seen. For the meantime however, Axel Foley remains firmly retired…
